When you fitted the pads did you apply the hand brake several times to adjust the cable?
Doing this adjusts the piston against the pads again and takes up the slack on the cable..
no is that what you do is it , i have tried putting the handbrake up and down a few times to see if it self adjust, how many times do you have to do it
I did mine about 4 or 5 times untill it tightened up..
how many clicks should it be until the car holds just on hand brake, i have always set them to five clicks, do you operate the handbrake after the whole caliper and pads are fitted and wheel is back on
I did the adjustment after everything was back together..
When the piston is wound back into the caliper and new pads fitted, pulling on the handbrake numorous times moves the piston back against the pads and pushes them onto the disk surface.
When this is done you should be left with the handbrake doing as before you started.
HTH
i have assembled everything back and still takes about 6 clicks to hold on the handbrake whereas before it was about 3 to 4 to make it really hold well. i have tried putting the handbrake up and down about 30 times and it still feels the same. any ideas?
You say that you changed disk and pads, did you release the blead nipple when rewinding the piston in?
no just took the lid of the reservoir in the engine bay, just a bit stumped as the brakes are fine, its just the hand brake thats puzzling me
Give it a while mate, mine took a few days to adjust itself properly...
