    Default Resident Bobbies

Ive sent my application off to join the specials and could do with some advise.
Ive heard mixed reviews - Some people say that this is the best way to enter the police force and get a permanant job? Others say there is very little chance.

I also have 2 offenses from 9 years ago when I was 17 and stupid. Destruction of property and failing to surrender for the above offense. Would these affect my application with them being so long ago?

If I am successful with my preliminary application what do I need on the fitness side? Its been quite a few years since I did a bleep test but I dont smoke anymore and my average weight should be 11.5 Stone and Im 13 so Im not massively overweight.

Any advise would be off help.

Ive heard that it does not help overlly to be a special, to get that perm job.. But it is good in that you can actually give the job a trial run without no finacial commitments etc etc.

    Fitness Test.

5.4 On the bleep test (over 15 meteres) = Equates to around 3 and Half Minutes of Running.

A sprint and agility test (running around cones.

Grip test ( Buy a tennis ball and squeezethat a few times in the morn and evening every day to imrpove ur grip.

    Push and pull tests..

Unfort i cant tell u what levels u need to get on the above (except the bleep test)

Im sure a Bobby will be along to help you out though..

Ooohh hand be honest and upfront about ur convictions.. let them see u as honest etc etc

This is very rarely the case. Any special applying to be a regular gets processed in the same way as any other applicant. I know it should be easier as you are already doing the job but not being paid for it but that's the way it goes unfortunately.

It will depend on the force really, but like you say, being so long ago you should be ok.

Again, this is force dependant. For example, West Yorkshire no longer have a fitness test for their specials.

Best of luck with the application mate, I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I know a number of specials who can't get into the force, as for your convictions, depends on the force. They aren't going to do you any favours though. As for fitness test, you should be able to do it backwards (pretty easy now)!

Hope this helps, honesty is the best answer. Put in your application and see what happens is all I can say,

    Robbie

PCSO's are completely different in roles and powers to a Special Constable.
