    Angry Spring issue

After my one of my rear springs snapped a month back, i started reading about a lot of issues on this forum about springs breaking. Anyway, i followed suit and got some after maket springs, (Eibach) because they are lot cheaper and are a better quality than VX ones.
I decided to do the springs myself which was surprisingly easy (thanks to the How To guide), but to my horror when removing the front springs i found out that both springs had snapped. I don't even know when they snapped, but it did make me worry as i do have my wife who also drives the car, who is also 7 months pregnant and i also have a 3 year old son, and i would have never forgave myself if anything had happend to em. The thing is i had changed the front disc not so long ago and didn't even notice that they had snapped, and i had only noticed when i took out the whole spring-shocker set up out the car.

All i want to know is why hasn't VX ever put a recall out, because to me this is a very dangerous issue.

because its not just a vx fault. Its getting more and more common on all makes partly due to speed bumps.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

had my MOT last week and my car failed because both front springs broken, the mechanic who did the MOT said that these days the sping failure is the second most common cause of failure.

i gotta say reading around on the forum vx put a shoddy set of spings in the veccy but its not just vx its all cars that are suffering. its its got to be down the ever appalling road conditions and speed humps that seem to be a major factor.

I will strongly say that it is NOT down to the roads being any different, or having speed bumps or road surface quality.

It IS down to the parts not being fit for purpose, and a lack of thorough development and validation FOR THE CONDITIONS IT IS LIKELY TO SEE - ie road surface quality and speed bumps.

These road features have been around for a long time, and the fitted springs should be specified to suit these conditions, and the necessary validation work done to prove they do.

    I agree with Ste.

If aftermarket spring manufacturers can make decent springs that don't snap under poor road conditions (i.e Eibach) at a fraction of the cost why can't they be made like this when fitting them to the vehicle? It's down right disgusting, it's all about cost cutting and making profits these days

Been a standard Vxl problem for years!

Omeags break the rear springs all the time, on my old MV6 both rear springs broke at the same point on the coil, didnt really affect handling or geometry much, the CDX i still have has had one go.

The MV6 was a 99 model and the CDX is a facelift '00 model so its atleast a 10 year old problem!!

The thing is, I don't drive like a maniac, I don't smash up speed bumps and i do take it easy on bumpy roads. So to me, i should have never have had this problem. This is a vauxhall problem and should have been sorted out a long time ago.

I've never heard of springs breaking being a "common" thing till i bought a Vectra and joined this site!

So anyway - for future reference, how much did the Eibach's set you back, and they any lower?

    here you go mate. http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/store/home.php?cat=2286

because i have an Sri, it's only lowered it about 15mm, but the difference with handling it's so much better. this is the way the vectra Sri should have handled.
