    Default He's not happy!

    My brother, that is.
He was driving his '07 reg Saab 9-5 Aero up the M1 yesterday, when he got a "low oil" warning on the dash. He thought, "WTF? I just checked it.". Then the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the engine let out a bang.
He coated to the hard shoulder, lifted the bonnet and fairly quickly realized that the sump plug had fallen out.
He was recovered home, and luckily it's all covered by warranty.
Trouble is, he was due to go to France on holiday next week and they won't let him take the loan car abroad. I offered him our Signum, but he felt he couldn't put a couple of thousand miles on someone else's car, so the holiday has had to be cancelled.
Funnily enough, it's the second time he's had this kind of thing happen. His old Monterey (Isuzu Trooper with a VX badge) once ejected it's back axle plug on the way to France. I was with him and we didn't realize what had happened until we were in the Eurotunnel car park.
The stink of hot axle oil on catalyst had to be smelt to be believed, and caused a security alert in the car park.

I did suggest that the same tech must have moved from VX to Saab. I won't repeat his answer.

    Phil

real shame - very nice of you to offer the use of your motor

good job its under warranty - are they aware of an inherent problem with sump plugs ??

Hard to say, as his original dealer in Northampton has gone down the pan. It's been towed from Northampton to Brum to be fixed.

It could quite well have been taken to the Saab dealer not too far from me then. If it has been taken to Brum".

thats not very handy. hope someone didnt crash on the oil that left the engine on the road very poor if a dealer has left is loose. surprised they are doing it under warranty and not trying to squirm out of it by saying he mustve loosened it himself while doing work himself they will usualy try and get out of any warranty work they can

    What about his travel insurance?

My brother got a hire car for his Disneyland Paris trip last year when their Zafira cam belt snapped.

Sorry to hear about his mis-fortune... not good at all.

I did once have a VX dealer in Blackpool fail to tighten the wheel nuts up on the rear offside wheel of my Zafira which I had at the time. On a journey to the Midland next day we started getting a clicking noise from the rear end, and when I pulled over to check I found the wheel nuts halfway down their threads, Amazingly I hadn't felt anything wrong with the motor prior to that.
When I compalined about it when we got back, the mechanic said he must have got distracted while putting the wheel back on, and obviously had only hand tightened them..lol So I always ensure they are tightened to the correct torq setting when I return from having any car serviced now. Just to be sure. Only time its ever happened in nearly 50yrs so I suppose I cannot grumble... mind you.. it only takes once does'nt it..lol
