Default Is the 1.8 VVT Engine a solid reliable engine ?

I've been asked if the 1.8 VVT engine that they use in the Insignia has any inherent issue's with it. Does it have any known problems. ??

Think its more or less the 1.8 that was used in the later vecs.

    Cheers guys..

Yes it does to be a reliable unit, I spotted the Engine Reliability Poll after I posted this and it seems no-ones had any problems at all with it.

Looks like most of the issues reported are with diesels..

I used to say it was as reliable as anything, untill last week when my VVT system failed and flooded the valves with oil, slipping the timing whilst it was at it, 2006 plate Sri with 43k on the clock, always serviced on time, mechanic says its just one of those things

The block is the same as Vectra/Signum Astra etc, but the head has been slightly modified to suit the Insignia's Euro 5 requirments.

I wonder if the head modifications are also in preparation for the rumoured 200PS turbo version.

I've had to have a new clutch and flywheel fitted to my 1.8 vvti vectra at only 2500 miles. It still judders ocasionally even after fittting the replacement. Also had a stuck thermostat at 9000 miles. So for me its not be totally reliable.

I also find it annoying when changing gear from 1 st to second because of jerky gear change. Also i don't think the vvti is as quiet as the previous 1.8.
If i was going to buy an Insignia i would avoid the 1.8 and go for the 2 litre.

The only fly(wheel!) in the ointment is the clutch judder which is a known problem and apparently requires flywheel replacement (if I read it right).

If it is as good as the old 1.8, it will not disappoint. I had one of the older 1.8's in my 53-plate Vectra, and I had no issues whatsoever in 2 years of ownership from new.
