    Unhappy Service Costs!!

Just taken my veccy to Stealers for a full service. Only bought it a few weeks back and it's due one anyway, so thought whilst it's under warranty I'll get a proper Vaux service on it..

They've quoted £200 for the service + vat, and just called to say the brake fluid and coolant need replacing, at £40 each +vat...

works out another £100 just to drain and replace the brake fluid and coolant? seems a bit steep to me. I've said yes if it needs it but feel they are just robbing me for anything they can...
    Any thoughts?

and on a sad note, I sold my old veccy lastnight, cleaned it all up and polished it for hours. Looked soo good I didn't want it to go!

IIRC brake fluid change is recommended every 2 years and coolant every 4.
Price seems a little steep. £40 each including the VAT sounds better. Then thats a £20 for coolant/fluid and £30 for each job.

Depends on which service it is and what is included, £230 all in is a fair price
The additional jobs also seem fairly priced, if that is including parts and labour

    Does depend on which service
Ive just had Oil, Oil Filter, Sparks, Pollen Filter, Brake Fluid for £50 odd for the parts from VX paid my mate £50 to do it. Stamped also

The dealership I use was using their "fixed price" servicing for the last three services, at £150 plus VAT
I found that this was using the INCORRECT oil for most of the Vectra C range, using generic 10w40 oil, where they should be using GM Long Life 5w40 oil
The price was revised to £185 plus VAT, but they had to do that for free as Retailer Warranties said the dealership was at fault

It has made quite a difference to the service interval, as the last two were at 20K miles, but now that the correct oil is in the car has already passed the 20K miles interval and is still on track for its next service at 30K miles interval

I remember the last service on the Vec-c, which was their 2 years or 40k service, which included brake fluid change, oil and filter, all other filters etc. etc. was £224

Sounds like your's may be a little on high side, why not get a quote from another dealer, I recall that the first time I had just a oil/filter change at 10k miles (liked to change it every 10k instead of 20k)
VX Bicknells in Malvern, charged me £102 ( I was ripped off)

When it came to do the same thing at 30k miles I went to VX Bicknells in Worcester (same company, different branch) and it cost £78

    Others could well be cheaper.

This is the problem, dealerships charge different labour and part prices, therefore you need to phone around
The dealership I use quoted £85 for an oil and filter change (non-service)

I'd query the price mate. I've just rang our local main dealer for a price on a brake fluid change and inclusive of VAT its going to cost me £19.67. Another garage (not Vauxhall - Nationwide Autocentre) quoted me £35.90 all in.

Just to clarify when I said this I meant the fluid changes. The service sounds about right. As above, most dealers use fixed pricing.

A recent visit to local dealer involved other work but a change of ‘Break Fluid’ £30 incl vat after phoning around first seems about the going rate ……
