    Default Front Wheel Bearings

My front wheel bearings appear to be shot.

Dealers have quoted £500 to replace both, or £275 if only one side needs doing.

Is this reasonable? Does anyone know where I may find it cheaper in Fareham?

VX quoted labour times are 0.8 hours for one bearing or 1.5 hours for both.

Genuine VX hub/bearing assembly is about £140 (IIRC that's with VAT).

From the above, ask your stealer what their labour rates are. If we look at them doing both sides, the labour rate works out at £100 + VAT an hour .

My local independent garage charged me £220 all in for the n/s one on my GSi but they did insist on using a VX hub assembly.

I think I am correct it's not just the wheel bearings it's a hub assembly, which includes the bearing, & on one side a sensor. As to cost I have no idea if this is a good price, an independent tends to be less hth ...........

    Cheers guys.

Is this the correct hub for my GSI?

If so, may be worth getting a labour quote, and purchasing the hub myself.

Yep, that E-bay one looks the right part or this one from LMF at £10 more. http://www.lmfvauxhall.co.uk/store/p...3&cat=0&page=1

I did it on my old car about 9-10 months ago, the wheel bearing and hub are a complete unit, took about 1.5 hours each side, not hard to do, hardest part was getting the drive shaft back in the hub
