I think they are just cosmetic, I have a set for my vectra but have yet to fit them, after near 2 years!!

As stated they are mainly cosmetic. When I bought my 56 Vec-c new I got the VX dealer to put a full set of mudlaps on the car, as I had just bought a new caravan and thought they stop some of the mud/dirt from going up the front of the caravan when towing. They made little difference at all.

I once removed them, and noticed that they had marked the paintwork quite noticably underneath where they had been in contact with bodywork. So they were left on to cover the marks.

Best to place a couple of strips of tape underneath so they dont mark the paintwork.

Never bothered fitting any to my Insignia. At least I can properly clean and wax around the area, where they would have fitted. TBH I dont think they are worth putting on, especially as, after some time they start to look a little tatty due to stone chips chewing up the plastic on the lower part of the flaps.
