    Default engine management probs??

    Hi,

    I am a newbie to this site and although this is my first thread have been reading for a few days and using the hints and tips, so thank you everyone.

    I now have a specific problem I would be really grateful of advice on.

    I was driving my vectra down the m-way today, doing about 75 with the cc on when the 'car with a spanner through it' symbol came on. I pulled onto the hard shoulder and read in the book it means a prob with thhe electric management.

    I turned the car off and back on, the symbol was still displayed but went off when I started the engine. My cc then refused to work for about half an hour.

    Everything now seems fine except when you turn the ignition on the symbol comes up until you start the engine.

    I know it needs to go back to VX for a tech 2 (probably???) but wondered if anyone else had come across it and jknew what may be in store for me/the car?? I'm hoping its something simple !!

    I did have the ext temp sensor and pass window replaced today - is it poss these may have upset something.

    Any advice gratefully received for a very worried new vectra owner.

    wellcome to the site nick when the spanner light comes on it automatically stops cc to protect the engine but does sound like you need it tech 2d your ecu will have logged a fault code i think would be worth taking it back o the dealers

    Update - its been to a stealer and they found numerous fault codes for the passenger door - but i did have the mirror and window replaced so no [probs there.

    They also found a fault code for an inlet valve. They say is working as normal again now but they have been replacing a few recently so will order in and replace for me before it breaks for good.

    Might be something worth keeping an eye open for though if its a common fault

    Top service you're getting there then Nick..As you've now proved, with these vectra's the only way forward with mystery faults is to get the codes read..Top result as well for getting the 'apparently working' valve changed without a fight..I have to got into one to get them to actually lift the bonnet..Sounds like you've found a good dealer there..hang on to them
