    confused 2.8 into a 2.0....

Just a thought - If I bought a 2.0 Turbo Facelift Signum Elite, would dropping a VXR 2.8 into it be a fairly simple job if you swapped out the ECU and bits as well...? I'm just considering options to get all the Elite toys, but a manual gearbox and a 2.8 Turbo...

Might be talking out of my behind, but I'd have thought it wouldn't be as difficult as trying to put a redtop in it or something...

    Any thoughts welcome...

Mechanically, you could fit the engine with no problems at all and plumb it all in.

Now the interesting bit. The canbus will prevent you getting it running. You will have seen a few posts about members wanting to install later engines into older pre-facelift cars, and also old Calibra Turbo's into pre-facelift Vectra's. These are no go conversions.

With the conversion your looking at, the engine management won't talk to the cars management as they are from different models, so the engine ECU won't talk to the BCM (Body Control mudule) etc.

But, and it is a BIG BIG but.......if you had a 2006 2.0 Turbo, and a 2006 VXR 2.8, it is in theory possible to connect up all the relevant canbus systems and re-programme the car with tech 2 to allow one to talk to the other, but this would only work if you had the correct coding from Vauxhall and the car and donar car are from the same build cycle.

The down side is that, it is unlikely that Vauxhall will give this information.

I know a few poeple have done MK5 Astra VXR conversions in other Astra MK5's in the same way, but the Astra coding has apparently been around for a while as it is a fully Vauxhall developed system, where the 2.8 V6 is a Holden based system.

Option 2 though may sound more appealing.

Get a 2.8 T Elite auto, then find a donar Signum Design 2.8T manual and strip the auto box out of the Elite along with everything else needed and translplant all the Design's manual gearbox etc into the Elite.

It should be pretty straight forward. It would also be an insurance freindly modification as well as your not changing engines!

But I would not dismiss the Auto, I drove last weekend a Vectra VXR 280 Automatic and it drives so much better than the manual! It even feels quicker mid range, although I doubt it is any different.

Cheers Matt, like most of my thoughts and project ideas it's not likely to get off the ground for a while yet for many reasons, but it gives me time to consider vaious options. I'll also be doing 1300 miles in an auto 300C later on this year in America, so it might change my mind about them...

Do you not find you use more fuel in your auto? I'm driving a Ford Explorer here ATM which is a Auto and the MPG is terrible! 14MPG! Ouch! Its only a 4.6 V8 LOL. I just hate how it doesnt change gear when I WANT it to! Although I can fill it up on less than £8 LMAO!!!

Auto transmission on a car puts me off straight away. Can't get on with them at all - and I've tried many.
Sounds like an interesting project this.

It may come to nothing, I may buy the Auto and like too much to switch to a manual, I may try and fit a VXR gearknob or a myriad other things - simply lots of options and ideas whirling round my head...

...fitting the Insignia dashboard is up there too...
