Wink mystry emission light problem solved pics

well guys here is the £16 pound problem that was making my emission light stay on. It is a known sensor plug fault on the cooling system that vauxhall know about but will not tell you untill they replace a cam belt or crank belt sensor first at your expence. The things to look out for is the light stays on but you have full response then safe mode then full response when engine warms up or you may have changed and upgraded your air box.The problem for some reason is the wire overheats and perishes in the plug causeing a dodgy conection hence why sometimes full response sometimes safe mode thats why vauhall made a upgrade to the plug. pics shown hope this might help some guys out it did me thanks to richard at j & b autos cheltenham.
hope this saves some vec c members from being charged alot of money for cam or crank belt sensors that you might not need in the first place

    first pic old plug
second pic new part of plug
third pic is the sensor hole it came out of left side of the engine under the engine cover
fourth pic is new plug fitted
firth pic shows the cripps used where i cut the old plug off and added new plug
easy guys takes 10 mins to do £16 pounds to buy

Well done that man. Good information.

I had this very problem years ago in an old Cavalier Mk2 (1986) but at that time cars did not have 'limp home mode'. When the connection was making and breaking on this car, the ECU thought the engine was overheating (open circuit on connection) and would cut the engine dead in its tracks. Dangerous or what? Took me ages and loads of 'wiggling' to find the culprit. At least they have backup systems now.

THis problem is also known on V6 CDTI and aslo relates to poor running and starting. You can get new Temp sender and wiring kit from VX.

Default Is mine the same problem?

Hi guys I have a vectra c 2.0 dti 53 plate. I have an on going issue with the safe mode cutting in whilst driving on the motorway, usually on climbs, when its windy or I have to lift off the gas and decelerate.

If I am quick and lift off the gas, when the light comes on due to the wind or climbing, the safe mode cuts out and full power returns, other times it stays in safe mode on reduced revs, this only resets when the engine is switched off. The other day I was on the M1 and had to switch off the engine leave a few seconds and then restart the engine before carrying on, this time the car and spanner dissappeared but the engine management light on the other side of the dash came on and stayed on, I still had reduced revs.

In your opinion(s) would changing the cooling sensor mentioned above cure the problem or do I have another issue?
