Default Speed Van Trap - One for the Coppers!

Last week I was travelling to a customers via the Runcorn Bridge and the carriage way leading to the bridge is 70mph and as you approach the bridge it reduces to 50mph.

I was on cruise control and concentrating on the road rather than the speed when I came around the corner into view of the bridge, at this stage I spotted a camera van parked in the bus stop and checked my speed which was 20mph over.

If I get a summons I will plead guilty, however how the hell can these vans park in a bus stop? The road approaching the bridge is two lanes with two slipp roads, therefore the four lanes need to merge into two safely.

Having driven past the same spot(at the right speed) the van being parked in the bus stop would prevent any bus from using the same. Leading to the bus stopping on a 50mph slip road and people getting on and off; not the idea of a bus stop.

So people in the know is the van illegally parked and whats the official highway code for bus stops?

were the windows on the van open and could you see the camera/operator ??

if not then dont worry as it wouldnt have been recording - if you DID the receive a summons - i would contest it as the operator must have a clear and unobstructed view of the vehicle - rear window is an obstruction as most camera vans are heavily tinted

regarding the rights of where to park - in the uk they park in reported hotspots which are generally advertised on the safecam websites for all to see

outside of the uk they will park anywhere -including illegally and the vans are not even marked as camera vans

    so - wait and see

They (By Law) arent allowed to target every car that passes. As I remember they only target cars that are travelling at obvious excessive speed. Also, it not have been a speed camera van but a ANPR camera on the look out for those without MOTs Insurance etc...

Obviously not generally used by the camera team, so not logged in the tempory speed cams list.

Hate to tell you this, coming from the Liverpool direction the speed limit goes from 70, to 50, then to 40 on the approach and across the bridge..

    Hi Jim Bob

We know he was watching the road, not the road signs so any extra countdown doesn't really matter

Suppose so. But it means he was about 30mph over the limit instead of 20mph
