    Default Ummm...sump plugs

Amongst other tasks, I decided to change the engine oil & filter.
I removed the undertray and got everything I need to hand.

Could I remove the sump plug ? Could I hellaslike

No way..I have the sockets that grip on the side of the bolt, a breaker bar to die for, WD40...and the b*****d rounded off on me. Nothing would shift it, hammer & chisel..nothing.

Quick phone call to my mate in Stadium Garage Plymouth (quick plug..Ian & Martin are top blokes), it seems that VX use air tools and a steel plug into an alloy sumps will corrode and after 2 years its solid...

Why 2 years? the car, prior to me getting it and been stored for 16 month,

Martin will rescue me (again) with his air tools and a good amount of leg pulling !

    The moral ?

    Never assume

Assuming that your car (not yours, ingeneral) is serviced, oil changed yearly then the plug shouldnt have time to corrode ,

Glad you sorted it, been there before

Yes, I have a 120 1.9 Diesel. The undertray is easy enough with patience and room to roll around underneath the car. Wheel ramps or axle stands will do.

£60 ? not bad considering the oil is £50 plus the filter & labour charge.

I'm hoping that as I'm going to service this car from now on that the sump plug issue is a one off...

Oil 5/30 is no more than £30 tops, filter £5. And a new sump washer if not a new sump plug if its starting to wear on the head.
