    Default Airbox mod(But Why)

    Hey guys,
I have read on here in several posts about the airbox mod which involves removing the trumpet of plastic inside the airbox. But why do vx fit this in the first place if it restricts airflow, is it just a noise thing as removing it does create a throaty induction noise.

Vx put it in place for economy and emmisions. It restricts the engine by only allowing it a certain amount of air through. The air box mod allows full potential of the air box by de-restricting it. To gain full effect it would be worth putting a K&N panel filter to free up air flow even more. There is no increase in noise

I've done this and its worthwhile

Will the difference be hugely noticeable in a 2.0DTI though???? Is it really worth it in the end?

not too sure if its made a difference on mine, it took 5mins from start to finish, and the filter does blacken at only one end, just checked it its evening up now.
it might be a placebo effect but it feels a little better pottering around town..

worth doing as its free and easy to do, even i did it.... can always put it back!

Made a bit of a difference on my 2.2dti mate. Car feels alot smoother and revs easier. Worth disconnecting the battery for 15mins aswell to reset the ecu.
Not huge difference (compared to a steinbauer tuning box) but every little helps
Don't forget you'll need the radio code for non-canbus cars

I have had a new airbox fitted a few weeks ago. This is totally standard and has a standard air filter and to be honest you get the real feeling of the any improvement made by de-resticting it.

The result.......With the standard one back in place I noticed no change in any performance, if anything, the car is quieter and runs smoother.

Improvements from this type of modification is all in the head in my opinion, I work of the theory that the manufacturers spent alot of time and effort to get it right.
