    Default radiator fan problem

    hi all thanks for the welcomes,
    i have a temperature problem on car in slow traffic (motorway tailback) sub 40 mph the temp krept up above 100 degrees indicated and with it being a 2.2 with air con button i wondered how many fans where meant to come on ? also whats best to check first ?? the car cooled back down to normal once i was able to get some air flowing again 60 ish any help would be great cheers

    Could be the thermostat. I'd leave it running on the drive and see if the fans come on or not
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Yep, as he said. Also if your stuck in traffic, try your heater to cold setting and switch on the air-con. For some reason this reduces the water temp in the engine (well it does on mine) when standing in traffic.

    If the fan wasnt coming on you would get the dreaded 'car and spanner' icon. This would tell you fan control circuit no.1 is open , if you know any kind fellows in your area with laptop diagnostic tools / tech2 you can switch on fans at all 3 stages to make sure they are functioning. Just a thought but have you checked there is enough coolant in the reservoir , this again should throw up an error if too low.

    Thats because the A/C brings on another fan to cool the refrigerant which, in turn cools the water rad as they are all together.
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!
