    Default Computer DVD Regions...

Now, I'm sure of how this works, tried a bit of the good old fashioned Google, but still none the wiser...

My Q is - On a Windows computer/laptop, when you put a UK Region DVD movie in and then change to a US Region DVD, it only allows you to do this 10 times or so before it locks to one or the other... Now, I have a Apple Mac and have never had this happen yet.

As we can only really get/hire decent DVD's on the local US Military Camp, the DVD's are all Region 1. Someone asked me do I know how to get round this problem of the region locking out. (I'd like to add - a LEGAL way to do it please) There has got to be some techy people out there to help me out again... I'm guessing that they'll either be using windows media player or Powerdvd? Vista and XP.

    Cheers

I think it is usually only 5 times that you can reset the region. You can find software to make the drive region free but you might need to flash the firmware of the drive - this could end in tears. You may also need the player software to be region free too.

Alternatively get a region-free external drive from a popular auction site.

You could use anydvd and clone dvd to copy the disc and it will make it region free then keep the two together and your original disc will never get sctatched.

You can get patched firmware for most DVD drives to make them region free (region killer), you have to copy the files to floppy disks and run them outside of windows (in true DOS), been a good few years but I did have a website for this somewhere. hmmmm...... I'll have a poke around my old notes when I get home.
