    Default Lane discipline at roundabouts

Every day I drive through Dumbarton on the A82 heading for work. After the police station, if you are heading for Loch Lomond, there are two roundabouts close to each other (three lanes in, two lanes out).

On a daily basis, predominantly on the return journey, you get people in the inside lane using the middle lane (racing line routine) and people in the outside third lane (which is marked for right turn) turn onto the middle lane at the last minute when they realise they are in the wrong lane.

Every few days I seem to be in a near miss situation. I feel like writing to the council warning them that I am having so many near misses, in preparation for when something does happen – and ask them to pay the bill.

The signage at the roundabout is pretty minimal (could do with being improved for the hard of thinking) and the lane markings are getting a bit faint now.

If you are likely to visit said roundabouts on your travels watch out.

Rant over, going to enjoy my bargain from Tesco’s – 2 bottles of Captain Morgan’s Dark Rum for £19, not all in the one night

This happens at most roundabouts round my way. You always get some pillock steaming up the outside lane and cutting people up on the exit just to get maybe 4 car lengths closer to home. I think it'll get worse before it gets better!!

I was back home a couple of weeks ago and the roundabouts are causing havoc, people are writing into the local paper and complaining about it. Something about the signs and lanes merging etc, anyway a letter in the paper,

    Not-so-magic roundabout

    Apr 3 2009

I WONDER if I am alone in thinking that the so-called intelligent traffic light system on the Bellsmyre roundabout was set up by someone on the verge of insanity?

As someone who travels this road several times per day, I am becoming severely frustrated having to sit in a queue of traffic going east whilst one car coming from Townend Road is sufficient to alter the traffic flow.

For the avoidance of doubt, roundabouts were originally designed to aid traffic flow, and for years and years they have done just that, that was until some ever-so-clever individual decided to put traffic lights on them.

Now it may well be the case that this type of traffic control is needed in some places where traffic flow coming from several areas is causing log jams. At Bellsmyre roundabout, I think not.

At 6pm on Sunday, March 29, it took me almost two minutes from the new roundabout at Lomondgate to get to the Bellsmyre roundabout and traffic trying to make its way back east was queued well back on the A82.

Why, when very little traffic was moving anywhere else at the Bellsmyre junction, did the famous one car stop the flow once again?

Please someone – hold your hands up and say we made a mistake and let’s get back to the way it was before.

I used to use this roundabout a lot when driving trucks upto the landfill site and i agree it is a joke, people get paid a fortune to design these systems it is a disgrace.
