Red face What vectra C is right for me ?

At the moment I am waiting for some money to come through (from a claim) to get a newer car. I have had 4 vectra B sri V6's and 1 vectra b sri140 (currently driving a mondeo mk2 lx, which is a bit of a story and a sore point).

Workwise I do 30 odd miles a day round trip mainly quite straight and speedy b roads (prolly around 34-36).

I am wanting advice on which veccy c to get when the money comes through (I will have between 3 and 5k for the car). I am ideally wanting an SRI but unsure of what engine to get.

    1) I understand there are chain faults on the 2.2 sri-which years are affected and are there any other problems with the engine or anything else I should know about?

    2) Originally my 1st choice was an sri cdti150-swirl acuator and egr problems are the lemons on these so I've been told. Again, are certain years affected ? With me not doing mega mileage would it be beneficial getting the cdti 150 ? I am 37 with 3 kids and need the veccy size, however I do like something nippy as well (I was considdering a tuning box for the cdti if I get that).

What would others choose in my place ? If it wasn't for mileage etc I'd have gone strraight for the V6, but sadly got to make cutbacks (credit crunch and all that, lol)..

Thanks in advance for the help....

if you do alot of miles including long distance then a diesel will do the job, if it short trips and round town then a petrol will be best, as the fuel bills will be about the same

Actually I hadn't considered a 3.0 v6 cdti. What sort of mpg would I get out of one of those on my daily run to work-45mpg ? Do the 3.0 v6's have any known faults ?

I cover around 35 miles per day to work. I ended up getting a 2ltr DTI. Mostly A roads for me too, diesel is ideal.

My Vec C is the 2.0 DTi 100bhp so probably wouldn't be one of choice for yourself. The good points about this car is the tax is the same as my old 1.4 petrol Fiesta and it does 47-49 mpg so is cheaper to run!!! I wish i'd worked this out earlier as i've been going to race meets etc in a Fiesta full to the brim!!! Could of used the extra space. I think the 150 bhp Diesel SRi might fit your requirements. Quite quick lots of extras and reasonable MPG. If you like modded Vectras there are always some for sale on here.

My choice would be the car i own as i only got it 3 months ago. I have a bike for doing the grin stuff :-)

@ Glynn-daily work and back around 36miles. Do a few short trips here and there. Odd run from sunny Doncaster to Brid/Scarborough/York etc a few times a year. Thats proabably about it since I changed where I work (was 60mile round trip b4 )

Have you had any problems with the egr or swirl actuator mate?

Seeing you've had 4 Veccy B V6's you obviously have an affinity with this engine configuration !

I actually think the 3L V6 diesel would be a great choice for you with the mileage you're proposing, which isn't huge. Better economy than the petrol, but with plenty grunt and you should be able to get something nice around the 40-50k miles region for the sort of money you're talking !
