Default auto headlights, fog lights and levelling system not working

    Hi,

I'm new here as a new owner of a 1.9 CDTI 150 Design hatch and so far pleased with it. I have an odd problem that I thought I would ask about here first before going back to dealer i bought it from (non vx, I'm 3rd owner)

The basic issue is that the headlights stay on all the time. Main beam works but the control knob doesn't affect the lights at all. They are auto on this model and at first I wondered if it had been specced for daytime running lights (06 plate) but when I realised that both front and rear fog lights, levelling adjuster and dashboard illumination control don't work I figured something else was amiss... I've also notice that the central panel (radio/climate) controls don't light up all the time - they do when you unlock and put key in but as soon as ignition is on they go out - a tad inconvenient at night.

Before I go back to the dealer anything I should try? I thought a fuse might be missing/faulty but haven't come up with anything so far. Had a bit of a search round the forum but no luck there either!

    Cheers,

    Jon.

iirc to remove the s/w unit, you have to push and turn the knob to poss 1 and it just pull's out.....

Ok.. had a crack at this tonight and got it fixed....

Not very straightforward though! I tried push and position 1 thing and the whole panel goes in by about 3/4 inch but no further. I jiggled it about loads but it wasnt coming out.

So, I removed the facia trim panel inbetween the vent and the panel and took out the vent with the 2 torx screw - I could then access the rear with the multi-pin. I thought I would try re-plugging the connector in situ but I couldn't figure out the clip (being a bit new at vec c's!)

In the end I moved the whole bottom dash panel but this isn't actually possible since there is a single torx screw in a recess above the light control panel! After I had been jiggling it about a lot I actually ended up cracking the (very thin and flimsy) bit of dash this goes into which is a shame. I think I'm going to glue it up tomorrow to see if I can make it good as that part of the panel moves a little now!

So, what was i doing wrong??? Even with the lower dash panel off and the multipin removed I couldn't figure out the module slots out!

Anyway, the good news is it's fixed and the switches all work again!

I might take some pics tomorrow to show how it comes out when I try and repair my handiwork!!

    Thanks,

    J
