    Unhappy Cleaning of EGR valve

I posted a thread yesterday about my 1.9 cdti needing a new EGR valve. valve being replaced by arnold clark greenock under garage warrenty. But vauxhall do not have any in the country and have been given two dates in may 5th or 15th for delivery. the garage have said unsafe to drive car but will not attempt to clean valve to get car working as they say it doesnt work well and would need cleaning again with in days. Being new to this problem as a first time owner can anyone tell me if garage is being honest or just being obstructive.........

i had my car go into limp mode a few months back and took it into bangor garage which is the v dealer in aberystwyth where we were at the time, they told me same thing that egr valve was knackered and needed new one but was told was on back order and warrenty cust will get first ones so they said that they had been removing and cleaning them, they charged me 40 to do it and tech 2 the car to clear any fault codes, its good as new still but have seen egr valves on www.onlineautomotive.co.uk for around 130 which is lot cheaper than vx dealers

Rubbish, IME. Taking it off, cleaning it and refitting it should take about an hour or so; it only needs cleaning/brushing/sluicing through with carb cleaner/petrol before being allowed to dry.

I agree, cleaning the EGR is a fairly simple procedure, I'm in my late sixties and if I can do it anyone can. Even when no fault codes show, its still worth removing it about every 15k miles and give it a clean, dont forget to clean out the inlet where it bolts on as that gets really blocked up. You would not believe the difference it makes to performance. I did it once on my old 56plate vec, a very simple worthwhile job. Hope they have less issues on the Insignia, but TBH my old vec-c 150 was very reliable indeed and never throwed up a fault code at all in 37k miles.

i would do as sugested prior and remove and clean, i have to do mine 2/3 times a year as i do short local runs and it tends to cake up more often.
