Default Anyone had their wiper linkage fail

Mine went on the way back from Birmingham today, been up looking at lorries, called in to my garage only to be told that the linkage is on backorder, as a result, Vx are putting people into hire cars while they come in. But, they'll only do that when a case no' is raised with Vx customer services. They will call me tomorrow.

Are they obliged to give a like for like replacement on hire cars if they can't supply parts?

Yes indeed mine failed at around 80,000 miles . Had to do a temp. fix at the time as there was a very lengthy wait on back order .

When it was available I fitted it myself .Apparently early Vectras which mine is , has a problem with the linkage . The newer modified part has a totally different linkage, which you will see when the old to new one is changed .

Dont tell me ....................the driver side works but passenger one has stopped is this correct ?

    Andrew,

Several on here have had them done including me. Mines a 2003 sri and i was told it was certain build numbers that had poor quality linkages fitted at the factory and that Vauxhall now use another supplier. Seems as though lots are having the same trouble if the part is now on back order. Mine was done the next day, that was a year ago though!

Andrew, I was quite lucky, car went in for service just before 60,000. Got them to check suspension, etc. When they went on road test, wiper linkage failed. They had to replace linkage & motor on warranty. could have failed just after warranty!

Quite agree the timing's spot on! Especially as I was about 5 miles from the dealer when I noticed it!! I've popped the linkage back together, but how long that'll last I dont know!

Caprimanuk, you were spot on! I've just got off the phone to Vx customer services, who tell me they will try and get back to me before 10.30 tomorrow, as effectively my car isn't roadworthy through no fault of my own. I'm intrigued to see if they will put me into an equivalent hire car though. The service manager at my garage said they had to hire cars for customers with this problem, which to me suggests a lengthy wait..

I had mine done as well, it clonked for a while then gave up. When I first put it in I got it back saying there was no fault. I asked if they had sprayed a hose at it and tried it wet, they hadn`t !!! so had them replaced on the 2nd visit ...

Andrew , its the ball and socket that fail . As a temp. measure get a morrisons or tesco plastic type carrier bag and cut about a 5 inch square .

Then fold it in half a couple of times , then place this over the socket and press the ball into the socket it will be tight !

This was a temp. measure for mine for about 2 to 3 months while I waited for a new linkage . And mine failed at winter time when it did nothing but rain ! !

This temp. mod was done on the old Cavaliers , they had a simillar problem .

Let me know how you get on fella .

Off out now to try that! I hope the wife's not reading this - the amount of time's i've complained about her having a carrier bag drawer in the kitchen when the supermarket give them away every time - is about to come back and haunt me.

Can guarantee this works mate ! If it still feels loose in the socket just use a little more carrier bag .
