Exclamation Speeding question FACTS WANTED not opinions

A while back my partner was 23 weeks pregnent and started to severly misscarry, so we rushed to hospital and I was lets say going alot faster than the national limit, it was a clear road night, good conditions.

Unfortunatly there was not a good outcome but if i had been stopped by the police, would I have got away with it under the circumstances as my partner was heavily bleeding?

Like i say i dont want sympathy as its one of those things that happens in life but i also dont want oppinions PURELY FACTS.

Maybe one of our resident officers can shed some light, has this happened to them?

    Thanks

i doubt a speed camera would be too friendly so that would mean a trip to court to plead your case.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

you can in this case plead your case, hopefully the hospital can send a letter saying your partner was admitted in an emergency, but at the end of the day it is down to the court so good luck and i hope it goes your way

I know of a similar occurance where a friend was stopped taking his wife to hospital when she was in late stages of leukemia and was on her last legs. He was pulled by a motorway Police patrol car and when he explained the circumstances which are very similar to yours, they gave him a high speed escort to the hospital.

Discretion would have come into it on a personal basis if an officer pulled you over and it was a genuine complaint

A camera has no discretion so you'd receive the NIP and then have to plead it at court. A Traffic Officer can show discretion and as above, and in many other reported cases, have even escorted people to hospital.

firstly - symapthies and hope the Mrs. is doing OK...

secondly - while everyone would probably do exactly what you did... don't forget that you are not necessarily trained to drive safely at speed and had a collision occurred you would probably have been in the deep poo, as well as being even less able to help the wife...

I know why you did it - and most would do the same - just don't expect the backing of the courts if it goes wrong...

BUT the only thing to go wrong was the whole reason why he was making as much haste as possible to get to hospital....

I just think that last post was unnecessary.

I think unless you had been going very excessive speeds 100+ you'd have been ok if anything had come of it!
Personally I had similar situation when the wife was pregnant, although she was at home in Northwich and I was work near Watford, I had a spirited drive up and got to the hospital in time. I was going slightly too fast, but wasn't really thinking. When you have so much going on its difficult to stop and think. I know the Mrs gave me a right b0l0cking when she found out how fast i'd been going and her main argument was i'd rather you'd been late than not here at all!
