Default Anyone with front spring failure ?

Can anyone who has experienced a front spring failure please post a picture of the fractured spring, or describe at what point it fractured.

Here's mine, as you can see it fracture about half a coil from the bottom end in a classic torsional break. There also appears to be evidence of an inclusion in the material at the fracture site, which just happens to be where the diameter of the coil turns in for the last bit....

I had two identical spring breaks on my Mk4 astra. first one was half a coil, replaced both fronts, second one was a bit more than half a coil. Don't think I've still got the photos though. sorry.

Does give a good excuse to lower though

That looks identical to the front spring that broke on my old B.

All I can say ste is that liiks a bit like mine, although you could see from the break that it had been one clean break not an old one that suddenly went.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Its the standard break on most cars. Ask your local MOT station. When my vec b was mot'd last month out of 6 cars on the day 5 had broken front springs. The tester commented " i love speed bumps"

He reckons broken front springs are the biggest failure he's had over the last year.

    Just to get people's focus.

I am only interested in Vectra C / Signum Spring failures for this thread, and only the front spring too.

Everything will be explained at a later date, when the data set is in..

I've had a conversation with someone who's quite high up in VX customer service (a family friend, so I won't name names!). He told me that VX still aren't sure why they break, but corrosion is the biggest suspect, caused by stone damage followed by winter salt spray. Saabs have shrouded springs and have a much lower incidence of the problem, which is why the Insignia has shrouds, too.
When mine broke it was somewhere near the middle, but it was a year ago.
