foam under engine cover

hiya,

Just changed my 04 signum 2.2 design for a 57 1.9cdti design.

A week later my dad gets a newer 08 vectra 1.9cdti sri.

Looking under the bonnet the vectra has a foam insulation insert directly under the engine cover.

As mine has not got one fitted, although its the same engine.

I was hoping this might help with condensation in the rocker area, as i only do short journeys.

Anyone else know what this foam may do under the engine cover?

I would have thought its for noise reduction over anything else. Although not sure why one's missing unless someone has taken it off and not put it back on!
