Morning everyone!!! Much more awake now and still grinning.
Departed my house at 7:00am on Wednesday morning, promptly drove back to my house and picked up my wallet, digital camera, locking wheel nut and thermos flask!!! It really felt a great start to the day! I finally left my house for the second time at 7:15am. The journey down to Triple Eight was a typical UK trip, 80-90mph, then traffic..... idiot won't move out the way, idiot moves over, another idiot tries to drive into me and a few crashes along the way.... Bummer. I finally arrived at Triple Eight shortly after 10:30am to be greeted by Tony who is the Centre Manager for Triple Eight Racing and the VXR Performance Centre. Couldn't of met a nicer guy if I tried. We brought my car around to the dedicated VXR workshops that are so clean it puts a hospital operating theatre to shame, and I was given the tour of the VXR workshops.
First of all we have the above picture looking in from the entrance of the VXR workshop. The White Astra is one of the Thurlby Motors 888 Astra under preparation. I must admit I haven't thought much of the Astra in white, but in the flesh it does look positively stunning. Be an absolute git to keep clean though. The stairs to the right of the workshop lead up to the waiting room, the tea/coffee area and the simulator (More on that later!)
This is the waiting room with the new Recaro seats in. These were so comfy I was ready to buy them and get them installed in the Vectra. Until I heard the price..... £1600 fitted!!! Needless to say it was still a struggle to keep my hand OFF my wallet and stop it being thrown at the credit card machine. Would of been pointless in the Vectra though due to they are lightweight. If I was on a weight saving trip I wouldn't have the Vectra Bus model!
Here is another picture of the Thurlby Astra 888 in preparation. As you can see it is in very early stages. Would I have one? Damn right I would.
Here is the simulator on the upper floor. The simulator is built into an Ex-BTCC car which was rear-ended in a race over a year ago. This was the actual car used to race for a season. It was repaired on-track by re-jigging it between 2 lorries overnight before completing the race the next day earning vital points for the VXR team. It was then brought back to the workshops before being completely rebuilt. Then they decided to use it as a simulator and promptly chopped the backend off, to the dismay of the technicians who had just spend 3 weeks putting it back together! The simulator is extremely well done with a force feedback steering wheel, the gearstick is still connected to the actual box with sensors on it so you use the original long stick change as well as surround sound and a nice big widescreen tv to play on. BUT a warning, you need to be rather flexible to get into the simulator as it still has the side roll cage bars on it! I had a race for a while but after driving for quite a while I didn't fancy being in the simulator too long. But absolutely awesome!!
Here is the picture of one of the Race-Spec VX Racing Astra's. The only difference being it has twin seats and a slightly detuned engine. This is what VX Racing use for corporate events. A racing driver sits at the wheel, and they strap in a willing passenger to be scared to death. All I can say is, I WANT A GO!
***** Have to move onto next post now so can no-one comment until final post is done so it all flows please. Thanks!**********
