Default Engine management light on after airbox mod

    Hi,

My Vectra is still smoking when first started for the day - even in the warm weather. Its been to the stealers and they can't diagnose the problem, but just recommended I monitor it. Anyway, after reading several threads on here, I decided that I'd do the air box mod and see if that helped as a starting point.

I took the plug off the air sensor (I assume) so I could open the air box and disconnected the hose. I removed the air filter, hoovered out the air box, cleaned the filter, removed the additional plastic part in the box and reassembled the lot. Reconnected the plug and hose. Today, after starting the car for the 2nd time the engine management light stayed on and won't go out.

Would unplugging the plug on the air box do this, or anything I did? How can this be reset without going to the dealers?

    Thanks,

Did to turn on the ignition with the plug unplugged at any time, if so that's what will have tripped it. To clear it, just disconnect the battery for 20 mins HTH

Hi - No ignition was off entire time until everything was reconnected and put back together.

Will disconnecting the battery do anything to the stereo/sat nav etc?

yeah you will have to enter the radio code.
dont meen to insult your inteligence but did you put it back togethet the correct way, eg. the MAF. is the arrow pointing the way the airflow goes???

Right - all seems to be ok again now. Just checked the manual - not engine management it was the exhaust emissions light (quite appropriate considering the smoke problem!!!)

Anyway, I disconnected the battery for about 5mins - then panicked as I didn't remember seeing any radio code for the CD/Nav system in the paperwork with the car - so ran to reconnect in the hope that it hadn't wiped its memory and needed the code within this time. Reconnected the battery, started car and the light went out and stereo/nav working ok.

Few - panic over - thanks for everyones help!

Stereo will be ok if you have rollers not button on your steering wheel. You might need to reset your electric sunroof and windows though.
