Default Rear Brake Pads on a 1.8

    Just had the car serviced.
(Full service including oil. filter, plugs, air, fuel and pollen filter, brake fluid change and rear brake pads £290.00)
and the local garage (independant family owned) have done a superb job.

    But

Rear Brake Pads at only 21,000 miles...fronts are showing only 25% worn.....seems a bit excessice, or do the vectra eat rear pads...Garage say the claipers are nice and free but the inner pads where gone

    Any thoughts.

Car is standard trim running 205/55/16 on steel rims, mileage is low for a facelifted 2006 1.8 Life model 55 plate

The rears do sometimes wear faster, its a trait
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Yep, the rears do tend to go first. The pads are very small compared to the fronts so take a bit more of a beating per square inch.

Angry rear discs + pads at 19000mls

Vectra 1.9TDi 150 new Jan 2008. offside rear inner pad down to metal at 19000mls - new discs and pads fitted

Has anyone challenged Vauxhall as their specified service interval is 20,000?

Its a max of 20k services, thats what they will probably tell you. Also it depends on how you drive ie on the brakes all the time down hill or changing down a gear or too etc. Just thinking of all their excuses. Driven hard they would probably only last 10k!

Brakes aren't a routine service item to change. You change them when they're worn down.
My rears went to 75K before they needed changing.

    Default rear pads

I had a 2.2 petrol NOV 2000 vectra before. It went 46k mls before changing any pads so I don't drive excessively hard.
Have contacted Vauxhall via the net and they responded by phone very quickly [give credit where credit is due] but only to say they would look into it.
I advised them I am not the only one experiencing the premature wearing out of rear brake pads [thanks to messages on this site]
I advised them my view was

    service interval is incorrect
    or
brake linings too thin [or too small in area as suggested below]
    or
brake lining material was faulty or not of the quality required
    or
the braking system design is inadequate

Whatever the cause the braking system is not fit for purpose

I await Vauxhall's response with interest.

Although my calipers were free I found a good clean of the slider bolt and some copper slip helped with even wear.
