    Default Tow bars and mot

As from mon 27th of April tow bars will become part of the mot. If you have one fitted they will be checked to make sure they are safe, if you dont have the tow ball fitted they just check the fixing bolts are are all ok, if the tow ball is fitted they will check those bolts are ok aswell. Electrics are not checked.

About time too. Anything that is under as much stress as the rest of the car should be checked. Just wait until they start doing caravan/trailer mots

Long overdue IMO, they should also do tests on caravans etc. Including making it law to have extra insurance cover for the caravan, many people dont seem to bother it seems. Though drivers should notify their car insurance company if they tow with the vehicle, many do not!.

if they dont tell their insurance and have an accident, then its void!! it happend to someone i work with, he then got done for driving with no insurance, they also done him for not having the correct licence for the trailer he was towing!

What do you mean 'They have always tested it here...'? Until now it hasn't been a testable item.

The OP of the comment was located in Denmark so it may well apply over there.

Ah yep, got you now. That'll be it then I believe they are also checked on the German TUV test, which is far superior to our MOT
