I'm not a sparky but the fault indicates a problem in the lighting circuit somewhere. With all lights off check again the light fuse & with all lights off turn them on one at a time to try & locate the earth fault. A lose wire in a switch or light fitting. I am surprised that all the lights are on one fuse ............

im a sparky, but without seeing and testing it no point trying to guess, need to have someone come and have a look tbh, if you carnt see the problem it needs testing.

Strange that both up/down lights wents out because they should be on 2 separte rings. Are you sure you are checking the right circuit on the consumer unit? Are you sure there isn't another consumer unit for the lighting? Is there anything in the loft?

should be on 2 rings, but depends how old the house is, have you checked concumer unit main switch? circuit breaker? and is the lightingg circuit protected by and rcd? check all 3, also have you added anything recently to the circuit? extra light ect?

If all the lights have stopped working I think it is safe to say that the fault is either in the consumer unit or at the first cieling rose.

Turn off the supply to the consumer unit before doing anything.

Check connections in the consumer unit first. It is not uncommon for a cable to have been nicked when being terminated and for this to snap or act as a fuse later on.
Check both live and neutral as it could be either.
It was common for all lights on one circuit and the lighting circuits are radial not rings.

If you are not sure what you are doing please call someone out.

Right lads, just had the sparky out,and he says that its wired on one circuit for up as well as down staires so hes said it needs spliting, and i have the old fuse box type with fuse wire and it needs to be upgraded to a consumer unit with mcbs...and the fault was a short circuit,on a rose fitting downstaires...but wait for it..gave me a price to do the job....£1250 squid...blinkin ader..did'nt expect this kind of hit when i'm skint anyway.
