    Default Noisy rear suspension

    Mornin'

My vec has always had noisy rear suspension but recently its got a lot worse. It sounds like i have something loose in the boot but I've checked and spare etc is secure. I think this is a common problem maybe bushes. If nayones had a similar prob and got it fixed let me know as I'd like to able to suggest something to the mechanic as a possible cause......its really on its last warning this car! Very close to buying a Hyundai Tucson

    Thanks

    Finty

maybe but its fine over normal road conditions dips etc. Its happens over sharp bumps like manhole covers or sharp speed ramps etc. Did the basic shock absorber test i.e pushing down on it and see it rises then levels off and it seemed fine. Think i remember seeing somewhere that there was a problem with rear bushes..not sure though

I had exactly the same problem as you, tried everything, even took the spare out, and cleared me boot, it all pointed to bushes but they were fine, 2 mechanics said shocks were ok, couldnt stand it any longer, bit the bullet and took it to main dealer, they changed the shocks, and problem sorted.

    Finty..

there is an issue with the quality and durability of the dampers.. get it to a dealer and suggest that they have failed..not to external notice ( ie oil leaking) but that the internal valving is kn#cked..It is perfectly possible for the shock to damp over a long stroke but a short rebound may produce a different result..

Must price up a set of shocks. They do damp perfectly over a long stroke but are very noisy over a short jolt. The bushes problem seems to affect the vectra-B more so. Thanks for the help guys

I have suffered with alot of problems with the front and rear suspension on my 02 veccy dti. It has been to the main dealers on no less than 12 occasions. I used to be a car mechanic for peugeot and knew exactly what the problem was. The car was so unstable driving along bumpy roads and going round roundabouts, the rear end would go sideways and then the front would follow suit. My main Vauxhall dealer said there was nothing wrong with the shocks and bushes but obviously there was. All Veccy C's have gas front and rear shocks. To test the front and rear gas shocks is the same way as oil shocks but the outcome is different. Oil shocks should go down, rise then settle when pushed. Gas shocks should have the complete opposite reaction to oil shocks. There shoud be as little deflection as possible. Just replaced both front and rear shocks with gas Sachs and the car is a differnent beast alltogether. I have heard lately that Veccy C's in their early days did suffer from defective front and rear shocks at low mileages. There are also problems with early Veccy C's with shock springs not seating properly and Vauxhall have rectified with a mod.

My rear end is well noisy so is the Vectras, this is driving me and the mrs nuts maybe I shouldn't eat so many beans

Mine is rattling and skips abit on the bends, this remindes me of my B for which I replaced both lower and upper bushes and problem solved.

Are people saying that the C has less problems with rear bushes?

If I corner hard left with people in the back I then get a sound like a pigeon in the back (rubber sliding and gripping sound), this now continues even when driving straight and hitting bumps (this is very annoying) any idea on this.

Also my fronts creak on slow sleeping policemen bumps?

These are both getting worse by the week.

Car has had front suspension mod.

Get it in for a check, tell them you have had the rear link arms checked and there is play in them, they wont admit to it unless you have another opinion to contradict their's.
