Default Are timing chains a non standard item?

    Not a Happy Vauxhall owner.
My Vectra 2.2 Direct Petrol, broke down in Plymouth on Tuesday. It was relayed by the AA to the local Vauxhall delears, Evans Halshaw, who finally looked at it late yesterday. I was informed today that the car needed a timing chain and petrol pump, the car would not be ready until next Wednesday. They said that they did not stock timing chains and one would probably have to come from either Luton or Germany! Luckily I am down in the Plymouth area for 2 weeks on holiday. Are the dealers just being a nuisance or is this the usual standard of service to expect!

A timing chain isn't something that is usually replaced as a matter of course, so no surprise really that the dealer didn't stock one.

What's the reasons for them saying the chain needs replacing? Has it snapped? If so then I'm assuming they've had the head off to check for further damage?

It's not a standard service item (it should not need replacing) but they should have some in UK stock - main stock location is Luton.

would be very dissapointed if they have to ship from germany, There should be plentiful UK stock accessable on "next day delivery"

I also would be asking why they are changing the petrol pump and the chain..

    Is it under warranty still?

Default Finaly got the car back

The Vectra was finaly returned to me on Saturday. When I collected the car I was just handed the keys. I was informed on the telephone that all the work was covered under warranty. No paperwork to show what had been done or even apology for the amount of time taken.
Luckilly the car drives well and is back to normal.
If only the main dealerships treated their customers with some sort of respect it would go a long way to repairing all the damage that has been done. Also another gripe, why do they never phone you back when they say they will!!!
