    confused Problems with V6 CDTI

Had the car since november last year and apart from the judder at 1500 revs been fine.

The judder i think is down to an engine temperature sensor as this problem is only apparent when the engine is at operating temp (80 - 90 degrees).
So which temp sensor and where is it hidden ??.

Been on a trip to france last week, and the misses noticed a smell of exhaust gas in the car whilst sat at the ferry terminal. when getting ready to get of the ferry in france the coolant level light came on 500ml of water later all ok, tuesday another 500ml of water. monday another 500ml, me thinks head gaskets, but today the header tank is halfway up the top side.

on the way home from portsmouth on sunday night,
outside temp 11.5 car at 75 mph inst cons 42mpg all happy
outside temp drops to 6.5 car at 75 mph int cons 33.5 mpg

Car is bookerd in for a pressure and sniff test on monday
    A
nybody got an idea as to what is happening.

When the engine is cold the coolant level can drop by about 100ml
When topping up, this should ONLY be done when the engine is cold, not even warm
This may result in the coolant level being false, and appearing rather high when the engine is warm

I find it is best to check the coolant level overnight or when the engine has been out of use for about 12 hours

I feel for you mate if it's a blown head gasket. Both heads have to be done, 2 new gaskets + I've read about cylinder liners failure after a head gasket fix. Dropped Cylinder Liners will cost you...well...a new engine from Japan

Mine lost about 0.5cm of coolant and then when I opened the header tank it went all the way up (no bubbles in coolant so the mechanic ruled out the gasket failure)

As for the judder at 1500rpm...I have it too...possibly a faulty injector. Still need to get those tested.

    Good luck!

just checked the water level this morning all fine no problems, judder seems to get worse when the engine warms up and after using cetane booster or injector cleaner.

Could be an injector playing up. Dropped liners will only be a problem if its run hot for ages, SAABS have the problem as they run a smaller engine bay and a much smaller rad.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
