    Default Petrol vs Diesel Calc?

    Hi all,

We have a 2.2 direct signum

and are looking at a 1.9 120hp cdti.

any help on what the savings will be? on fuel? dont need to take into consideration the buying of the car.

We will be doing 360 miles a week. dual carriage way.

    Thanks in advance.

If this comes out good, we will buy the astra.

    Vehicle : Insignia

    Engine : CDTI158

going by Vx's fuel figures of about 36 mpg for 2.2 direct, and about 49 mpg for CDTI - but bearing in mind not everyone gets the same as those combined mpg figures (both vectras for the comparison): -

    using: -
    360 miles/ week is ~19,000 /year
    Petrol 94.9 p /litre
    Diesel 101.9 p /litre

    • 2.2 direct = £2,275 per year
    • 1.9 CDTI = £1,795 per year

    You'll save £480 a year, or £40 a month in fuel costs.

And you'll be much better off for in-gear acceleration on the dual carriageway without having to change down...

£40 a month is better in your pocket, and with the increased drive-ability (torque) makes for a sound choice IMO - and good shout on picking the 120 variant too.

There's a basic calculator posted somewhere on this forum for download. It isn't exactly a difficult calculation.

All you will need is your expected annual mileage, expected fuel consumption for each model and the price of fuel.

    Easy
Annual mileage x Price of fuel (£) / Fuel economy (miles / litre)

    (1 Gallon = 4.545 Litres)

For each model variant, and compare the difference.
