    Default Handbrake mod!

went to vx today for some bits a bobs and service said we will do your handbrake wile you wait(2min job) and it was, I HATE IT!!!, it feels and sounds crap, ive never had any probs as i always apply it correctly but as they offered i thought ok!, I WANT IT BACK AS BEFORE. if anyone knows what they do i will hold all responsibility if i have any probs, i understand its just a spring clip type assist'er??. on a different note i also asked about the inlet manifold job as mine is looking rather oily, i asked if the new manifolds cured the problem long term and was there any signs of wear on the new ones??? yes they are showing some signs of wear ie the start of oily deposits also having egr faults but not so many!! he said leave it or sell it was the best option! 2.0t being his preference.

Does anyone know what this handbrake fix is?

I had a rather spirited drive home (80 miles) and the brakes were hot, parked the car, handbrake on, out of gear because i let her tick over for a wee minute, turned her off, locked went in to watch telly, few hours later the alarm went off, she had rolled into the house.

Now dad gave me alot of **** about not putting on the H brake but i know i did, when i went out to her again the H brake pulled up alot farther than it used to.

Does this sound like the problem?

Apply the handbrake and have no issues....... that's my opinion anyway.

Hold in button, pull up lever, release button and pull for a couple more clicks.

Ensures correct engagemement and reduces wear to ratchet.

    Also, LEAVE it in gear.

    It ain't rocket science....

I had the mod done before i picked the car up and it felt ok but once in a while when i pull it up it feels like it jumps up a bit with no resistance. I guess i should think about taking it back

you should not hold the button in while pulling the lever up as tyou cannot always guarantee that the lever pawl has engaged properly, and that was also given in the advice from vauxhall

Since when has the handbrake been under the bonnet?

I was a VX mechanic for 11 years and can't remember one VX that had a handbrake there!

    No wonder it failed!

They put an extra spring in the ratchet mechanism under the lever, not under the bonnet!

Hence the, 'release button and pull for a couple more clicks.

Ensures correct engagemement and reduces wear to ratchet'

    Comment.

I've always done this, and never had a failure on any car in over 20 years driving...
