    Anyone know much about camcorders?

Looking at spending around £500. I had a look at them in the shop and I think Canon's looked and felt good.

Not into camcordes, stills are my thing. But from what I have seen HD solid state (memory) with the best optical zoom you can aford is the way to go.

Be awair HD comes as either 720 or 1080. 720 is fine and you would be hard pushed to see the diferance on a screen smaller than 50" or so. Tho 1080 will need more memory.

I have just bought some some JVCs for work with built in H/D and they are brilliant. I would suggest getting the built in Hard Drive for the ease of export and editing. no messing with tapes. Its the future

I prefer the smaller size of the card based ones.

Take a look on ebay for a Canon XL1 or similar, you could get one for similar money and, despite not being high def, the pics are VASTLY better than ANYTHING from a normal camcorder. Bit big though, but if that doesn't bother you, check them out...

LOL I would need to get a vest with PRESS on it if I used that.

Thanks for the input, I think the HF100 seems the one. Just got doubts as to whether it's worth wasting money on a HD camcorder when I will only drop the quality down to burn to DVD.
