    Default Blanking Egr Valve

Egr Valve Got a ruddy good clean out today folks and gotta be said noticed a vast improvement. got into work straight round the garage and plonked the valve in a "Kero" Bath.

Looks brand new now. sorry i dont have the pics didnt take phone into work with me.

    My next point is.

A few of the mechanics in work and a few more of my friends that i have spoken to just to clarify. said that blanking of the egr valve completly will vastly increase the performance of the car.

so why are people spending amzing amounts of money to get these replaced when it actually degrades the performance of the cars

    My car is 1.9cdti 150.

anyone else have info on this or will i be the first to test this out?

    Simo

Simple, you can't blank off the EGR on a CDTi mate, if it was that easy.......

...other cars you can blank them off (BMW 2.0D/3.0D, Vec B 2.0 etc...) as they are purely a (mechanical) valve, the ones on the CDTi are electronically controlled and can't be bypassed.

    They're wrong.

    Because it doesn't.

You won't be the first to test it, and you definitely won't be the first to discover it won't work.

I even tried getting the EGR mapped out of the ECU and even that wouldn't work...

There is apparently a 'Fiat' gasket set available that reducers the flow of Exhaust gases.Blanking off your EGR won't necessarily improve outright performance, but it will stop your engine from eating its own ****.This has benefits of cleaner oil, longer engine life and better 'pick-up'.And it works on my V6.

I can blank mine off on the 2.2 petrol, both SE and YH, and it does make a performance difference, not much but it does. For one more Oxygen is used instead of exhaust gasses and second the exhaust gassed heat up the intake, so blanking it helps keep the intake temps down.
