    Default Browsers

I'm after a bit of info.

Which web browsers do you guys use?

I am using Internet Explorer at the mo but am thinking of getting Firefox.

Can anybody help me as to whether I should change or not, also what are the differences between the two?

Any info will be much appreciated.

    Cheers guys.

Best thing is to use both. Download Firefox and see if you like it (I personally think it's much better than IE).

But, you'll need IE for some things. Some sites are written sloppily and don't adhere to the proper www standards, using proprietory code that only works in IE - so Firefox won't show the page properly.

I use Firefox as my main browser, but have to pop into IE occassionaly to view a site.

Differences are that Firefox is open source so there are loads of people out their developing features, extensions etc. etc for them. IE is closed code by Microsoft with little inclination by them to advance it much further. They've got their huge market share by bundling it with Windows, so why bother spending time/money enhancing it any more!?

Go for it, have a play with Firefox, I find it much quicker than IE. Also it's a 'tabbed' browser which means you can have several web pages open in the one window and select which page you want from 'tabs' at the top. IE has some advantages in that it's more widely supported, so you may find the occaisional web page that's been optimized for IE and wont always display correctly in FF.

You can run both browsers simultainiously with no problems. I tend to use both, depending on what i'm doing.

I use Maxthon, which is IE based, but with all the features of Firefox, including tabbed browsing and pop-up killer. Best of both worlds!

I started to use Firefox over a year ago after suffering 'hi-jacking' with Internet Explorer. All the advice at the time was that Firefox was much more secure than IE and, being less widely used, was not as attractive to hi-jackers. I've had no trouble since and think it's brilliant!

My problem with Firefox is typing replies like this on forums, or using web based mail accounts. If, for any reason, the site you're on goes down, you lose your typing when you hit the submit reply button and get the page not found message. This is probably to do with the inbuilt security of Firefox as it clears the cache for the previous page when you click send/submit. Using IE, you can hit the browser's back button and your typed reply will still be there, but you get a blank box with FF. If this can be got round any way I might try FF again, but I found it too annoying having to either re-type stuff or remember to copy it first before sending.

I use both ie and firefox....prefer ie's favourites over firefox's bookmarks, but thats just personal preference... there a new version of ie out in beta, but its got a few probs.. works like firefox though with tabbed browsing.
