WARNING: Be aware of a potential scammer replying to Parts Wanted threads by PM.
This is a heads up for members receiving Private Messages (PMs) after placing posts in the Parts Wanted section.
It has been drawn to our attention that a potential scammer has been operating on several other car forums using the PM system to contact members.
They have joined the other sites and then having scanned the Parts Wanted section sent PMs to the original posters saying that the have the items available. After payment the parts never arrive and clearly as it's done via PM there are no replies on the open forum that might arouse suspicion such as the person concerned having every part available that people ask for. They could easily PM 30 members or more and nobody else would be aware that this was happening.
From what's been reported to us the PM states the price (which seems to be a bargain) and asks for payment by bank transfer to the Nationwide bank. They then give a mobile number so that the address of the potential buyer can be established. Obviously these details could change and payment maybe requested by other means such as PayPal or a money transfer company.
We don't believe that this individual has signed up to this site and we have received nothing from members here raising concerns about parts not arriving following the pattern identified on the other forums. Therefore this is just advise to make sure that you are confident that the person you are dealing with has the parts they are offering in response to a Parts Wanted thread particularly if it is done solely through the PM system from a newly registered user and seems to be similar to the practise outlined above.
If you receive any PMs that are suspicious, or of a nature as outlined above, please PM either Admin, The Moderators or an individual member of either.
