fine mate..just dont use fabric conditioner...I usually tend to give them a rinse with hot water first to get the polish out of the pads before chucking them all in together..

Why is the fabric softener a no-no? What effect does it have on the fibres of the cloths? Anyone know?

like Dwabo has said, I saw it on day time telly once for towels. the conditioner is like oil and it reduces absorbancy. Marks and Sparks recommend that you dont use conditioner on bathroom towels.

They also prefer a liquid soap like Ecover or Woolite to washing powder.

So all I have to do is wash the cloths with our towels and persuade the missus that not putting softener in is a good thing?

I have been doing them by hand with Stergene, which I use on my Assos (cycling) shorts, but if there are any dirty marks on the cloths they are hard to get out by hand-washing.

Maybe put them thru the machine and the hand-wash after?
