    Default This beggars belief

I am busy getting quotes for my daughter who is just about to turn 18 and will be sitting her test within the next month. Now I knew we would be looking at a few bob for insurance, so to that end, I bought her a little H reg Nissan Micra which is in excellent condition and has only done 52k. I paid £200 for it. Cheapest quote so far?...................

£997 TPFT . So I tried entering me as the main driver with her as a named driver, result?.............

    £1350

This thing cost me £200, it'll be worth £100 now

Anyway, two of her girl mates are insured through Churchill and their insurance is £600 for tpft. One of the girls had a quote for £750 Fully comp on a V reg Ford Ka . So i thought right, must be postcode related, so I did another quote using this girls address, result?.................

    £1280 TPFT. Go figure

I really cannot understand it at all. I don't condone it but I can understand why some people don't get insurance. There's no way on this planet I am paying over a grand insurance for a £100 car. What chance have young people got. I think the Insurance industry is a joke. People are only a risk if they do something wrong. It's like 'Innocent until proven guilty', your safe and a low risk until you prove otherwise, but no they wouldn't make any money then would they

My 18 year old daughter has just insured a 106 for £650 thro Churchill. Have you tried quotes for different cars? I know a Micra should be cheap, but is it possible that their system has it loaded wrong causing a ridiculous quote? Maybe worth ringing them?

LV are quite cheap for youngsters too.

A word of warning.....if insuring on a Provisional Licence, get a quote for a Full Licence as well. One of my son's friends didn't, and got stung for an additional £3,000 when he passed his test (not with LV or Churchill). There are some real cowboy companies out there!

    Gary,

all I can say mate, is try giving Quinn Direct a phone, they're an Irish company and you actually speak to an Irish person on the phone.

My 1.4 astra was £1200 when i passed but that was the cheapest quote in Miles. think the next one up looking on confused.com was £2500.

I would say the £600 - £800 mark would be about right for a female. they always get cheap insurance!!!!!

oh yes and also, Ring them up. Whilst getting quotes on the net is useful, it never gives an acturate figure. All the times I have rung up they are insanely different in price

What! Which company's that? I'm 21, 4 yncb, had one guy run into me 2 years ago. Insured on a 2.2 SXi for £710 fully comp.

Unfortunately 1k is about as cheap as insurance will get for someone of that age. I paid £2500 for my first year of insurance on a 2004 1.0 corsa.
