Question Small Oil LEak @ Turbo. 2.0L DTI

i had the aircon on at the weekend and when i pulled up at junctions i could smell burning oil. when i got home i poped the bonnet and could see smoke coming from the mannifold underneath the turbo, so i took the heat shield off and there is two bolts on the underside of the turbo that hold a pipe on the turbo. oil is dripping from the bolt closest to the engine. i tried to tighten the bolt up but couldnt get a ratchet or spanner on to it. what should i do? it doesnt leak that much, just enogh to make a small amount of smoke visible from underneath the heat shield.

Any chance of taken a picture of it? You have a large pipe attached to the turbo which is the cold air, should be oil free just air and the other pipe which is about the thickness of a diesel injector pipe supplies the turbo with lubrication. This has a banjo on the end of it i believe and could well be the leak. Possibly got the same problem on mine. I'll look at my 2.2dti and see if the turbo setup is the same tomorrow for you.

yeah i will take a pic in a bit for you. the banjo on the top is fine checked that and the copper washers arnt leaking. but on the underside of the turbo is another pipe, i think its the oil return pipe, an that has two bolts holding it onto the turbo. the oil is dripping from one of them but i cant get anything onto it to tighten it up. get a pic in a bit.

just been out to get the photos. i got a 1/4 turn on the bolt aswell so hopefully it wont leak at all or at least not as much.

this one shows the area above the bolt that is leaking.

this one shows the bolt head(as best i could photo) that the leak is at. you can see the pipe that the two bots hold on, the other bolt is on the otherside of the pipe.

If you aren't too handy with the spanners buddy get it checked out. The turbo needs oil to keep it cool. Big bucks if that leak gets worse

i have tried tightening it up again and had no look. im thinking of taking the bolt out and putting a couple of copper washers on it to try and get it tighter so the leak will hopefully stop.
do you guys think thats a better idea than just leaving it????

hi mate if its the same turbo that it looks like the oil return pipe should have a o ring to seal it to the turbo these get old and split.
