Default Yorkshire Region Rolling Road Day

Well heres a write up of todays Yorkshire Region Rolling Road.

We had a good mix of cars on the rollers:-

    2 1.9 CDTi 150's
    a 3.0 CDTi
a 2.0 Turbo with BSR remap
    a 3,2 GSi

We did have some concerns regarding traction control,
but after perservering on the rollers for a minute the
cars just gave up and switched the TC off themselves.

Motorscopes rolling road is a 2 wheel drive affair that
can take upto 250bhp. It has a local repuation for accurate
results and consistancy. Unfortunately it can only measure
    BHP at the wheels.

A few run were done on standard spec cars and 30bhp was
decided on as being acceptable transmission losses.

Rob the dyno operator (who owns Motorscope) was very
helpful through the day, supplying lots of knowledge
and advice and even Robbieben with a screwdriver. He
seemed as interested in the results as everyone else.
Interestingly he hooked up and Air/Fuel meter for the
petrol cars, and showed that Rob W's was ever so slightly
overfuelling (not by anything to worry about though).

A good morning was had by all, and with Keith (Gripper) and Philjs
comming along to join in the natter the event went well

First up was mine own 1.9 CDTi 150, totally standard

which managed 128BHP @ wheels, assuming transmission losses of 30bhp
    gives 158bhp @ flywheel.

next up was Andy and his 1.9 CDti 150 in standard tune

    which managed an excellent 125bhp @ wheel = 155bhp @ flywheel

    next came Robbiebens 3.0 CDTi.

    Robbie is currently experimenting with
different profiles on his tuning box. after tweaking away with the
help of Rob at Motorscope he managed 162bhp@wheels = 192bhp @ flywheel

Markspark and his 2.0T BSR remap came next

    Mark got 164bhp @ wheel = 194bhp @flywheel.

and last but not least was Rob W and his stock 3.2 Gsi

    Robs motor managed 165bhp @ wheels = 195bhp @ flywheel.

heres a few other pics of the day
    Wheel on the rollers

Markspark was found to be a closet Johnny Cash fan!

Marks newly fitted K&N induction kit

Rob (Motorscope) and Robbie discussing the CRD Tunning box

The "jumpers" that allow the tunningbox to be adjusted.

nice one ian , some good photos there , i think it shows with the results that a 3.2gsi, 2ltr t with remap and a 3ltr cdti with box are all about the same (give or take 2 0r 3 bhp (which is actually less than +/-1%)

all we need now is somebody with a 3.2 to get some tuning done and see wot that puts out.

will after wait till i get back of my holidays to get the sport cat exhaust fitted, as i have just spent £1300 this afternoon buying my missus a replacement engagement ring

so with that and my spending money for my jollies the modding fund is empty, infact its overdrawn

A great morning and a good bunch of guys. I was pleased to meet every one and am now looking forward to the big social event, beers and BBQ...yes PVS.
Thanks for the chat and answers to the computer questions I had and tonight I will try and add a photo to the space below my name, thats if I can remember the brief I got.

As I was too scared to run my new car today I fitted the sun glasses holder that I'd just collected, during a lull in battle!

Thanks again guys and looking forward to meeting up again.

At the Tunint RR day we held in the North West Scooby had an induction kit on his GSi and recorded a 228bhp. Big Phil got 208bhp in standard form if memory serves. But that was a much colder day and obviously a different machine, so it's hard to compare.

As Rob at Motorscope was kind enough to let me have a few Power Runs today testing the New DTUK Poweclick multi profile CRD box, here are the results achieved.

First Profile tested gave 158bhp at roadwheels

Second Profile tested was the old CRD box with the HARRY Profile 152bhp at roadwheels

Third Profile tested gave 165bhp at roadwheels

Then a Standard run which gave 138bhp at roadwheels

Rob at motorscope assumed I would be losing around 23% through transmission and the 18 inch wheels on the wider tyres.

If someone wants to calculate the figures out they can as I don't have a calculator.

A big thanks to Ian for organising the event and a big thanks to Rob at Motorscope for his expertise and advice

Ian are you going to organise another day out here when the new all singing all dancing rolling road is installed?

Thanks Andrew, really pleased with the new box it delivers the power a lot more smoothly and you have the option of changing through the profiles for various uses, it will be really good for members who tow a caravan occasionally who want a more low down torque profile for towing but then are able to switch back to a more sporty profile when not towing.

    I make it 191bhp and 202bhp

Using mine as a stock example, it showed 153bhp using that 23% which is spot on, with Ian recording 155bhp.

Robs car as standard recorded 169bhp

As Rob at Motorscope seaid, comparing 2 rolling roads figures you may as well be comparing turnips as they are all different. For a start one recorded flywheel figures, and the other recorded @wheels. Add in different ambient tempretures etc and youve no chance. As rob said, the best guide is to run the car standard, then run it with the mods, as Robbie did and got an increase of 27bhp

cough cough 218.9 bhp / 238 lb ft

you will find that there are more reasons for lost power through transmission ... even if your tracking is slightly out can alter the reading , and even tyre pressures can put pay to a decent result !!!
