Default 302 mm brake upgrade - any use ?

I have decided to go for a brake upgrade on my 1.9CDTI - 150.

Most people seams to recommend the 314 upgrade, but I thought I should go for the 302 upgrade. Two reasons: I can still use my 16" winter tires, and I can get hold of 302 brakes from Saab, for a song..

But, before my final decision, I wanted to here some comments from you guys.

Will a 302 brake upgrade make any difference at all, or are the 302 almost the same as my standard 285 brakes ?

Are the rear brakes on a "302 braked car" (2.0T) same sizes as my car, or should i upgrade the rear brakes also ?

i have gone from 285 to 302 on the front's and there is most definatly a difference......brakes seem to bite better imo and an upgrade that is cheap but very effective...as for the rear's they are all the same size on the cdti's only when you have a GSI are they bigger....

I have the 302mm setup sitting here waiting to go on. The Vectras at work are 302mm up front (V6 CDTI and 2.2's), and they're definately better than the 285's. Not a huge difference between the 314mm brakes on the 2.8V6 cars and the 302s.

And on the 2.0T - 292mm ventilated rears. Same for the 3.0CDTI AFAIK.

I have noticed a big difference in stopping power when I changed my fronts from 302's to 314's. But I had also noticed a big difference when I went from 285's to 302's, on changing from a 1.8 to a 2.0T.

Someone may be able to confirm, but I believe the 314 setup will fit under 16" wheels...? Never tried it myself, but i'm sure I read it somewhere...

No, they definitely won't. They're VERY tight on a 17" rim (to the point some stickky weights can be ripped off).

Might depend on the individual wheel design, but I've got at least half an inch around the caliper on mine, and the Police use the 345 VXR brakes on their cars with the 17" SRi wheels... :

More to the point, I wonder if my space saver still fits...

Default Saab brake upgrade - very confused

As I said earlier, I might go for an 302 brake upgrade. This amoung other things due to the fact that I can easily get hold of Saab 9-3 SS 1.8t/2.0t front discs and callipers...

But after studying 9-3 and Vectra ATE brakes at ATE.de, i may say that I am more than confused ???

If I have understood the ATE part catalogue correct, Vectra and 9-3 uses same type of brakes as follows:

ATE calipers 60/25 mm (...and same part no.):
    Saab 9-3:1,8t/2.0t- 2,8 t- 2,8t Aero
    Vectra: 2,0T - 3,0 - 3,2 - 2,8 V6 T

    Discs:
    Saab 9-3: 1.8t/2.0 t : 285 mm
    Saab 9-3 2,8t - 2,8t Aero: 314 mm
    Vectra: 2.0T : 302 mm
    Vectra: 3,0 - 3,2 - 2,8 t : 314 mm

All this should mean that you may use 60/25 callipers with 3 kind of discs on Saab and Vectra: 285-302-314 ? Does this mean that it is only the calliper holders that differs ?

My confusion was complete after taking a look at the front brakes on my father in laws Saab 9-3 1,8t Vector SportHatch. The front brakes on his Saab was not 60/25 callipers’, but exactly the same as my Vectra 1.9 CDT-150: 57/25 callipers with 285 mm discs ?

Am I getting all this wrong ? I have sent ATE.de an email and asked them to sort this out for me.

Sorry of all my mess about brake upgrade. BUT, I have been mending and working with cars in almost 30 years, and learned that many things are not as simple as they may look in the first place........

Maybe some of you can sot this out for me - Saab brakes or not ?

Think I finally sorted it out by my self...
I looked up different "used" brake parts on a Swedish “car wreck” company.

The 302 brakes are similar on Vectra with Z20NET engine and Saab 9-3 2.0T (B207R) 210 hp engine (Old 2.0T Aero engine)....

    Calipers marked:
    ATE H385
    GM 779 (left) - 780 (right)
    Ø302
    FN3 57/28 (Piston diameter)

Still cant understand the confusing ATE parts catalogue ?
