Default doors dented and scratched by moron parker

Was in town on Wednesday as we had to go and register my mother in laws death who unfortunately died in the early hours of Tuesday morning after her 5 month battle with breast, bone, liver and lung cancer - so it was a pretty bad day anyway. Parked up and went to sort things, when we came back couldn't hardly get between my car and the car that had parked next to me (see pic). Then, noticed a nice scratch along the drivers door from the handle about 30cm long right through to the primer. then, noticed a crease dent on the back door. The dozy prat had parked on the white line, opened their door and smacked my back door and then obviously struggled to get their fat **** between the cars and scratched my door. I am so harked off at it - it was a bad day anyway and this just made it worse. They obviously didn't care - drove a W reg focus covered in dings and scratches. I left a note saying to contact me or their insurance company, but I am thinking whether to contact mine and see if they will pursue a claim against them. I've been quoted £80 to get the dent out and a friend who works in the industry said the scratch will need the door respraying as well as blending into the wing and back door - so quite a big job and not sure I want it spraying before its even a year old!

This is my rant over - just needed to have a good moan.

Wondered how keithy got on getting his repaired as mines also red?

My sympathies m8, on the bereavement and your car. I haven't got any advice I can give you, but certainly understand how you feel. Very best of luck in getting it sorted.

Unlucky, at least they left their details though. Most people nowadays would just drive off. Could it be cheaper to find a new door from somewhere?

I sympathise on both counts. I get dog's abuse from my wife for insisting on parking in the furthest corner of Tesco's carpark, miles from anyone else (and the main door of the store) to avoid this sort of thing happening, only to return to find some idiot has snuggled up beside me with some scrapper (probably just to annoy me). I have noticed that Halfords are now doing touch up sticks with incredibly narrow bristle brushes and nibs which should with care fill a scratch like this with no overlap - might not be perfect but could tide you over for a bit. I have also noticed a couple of dings which have appeared on my car (first Vauxhall ever, had it for about a month) caused by stones, one right on the leading edge of the bonnet which really p****d me off. I'm wondering if Vauxhall panels are much thinner than on my previous VWs and so are more susceptible to this sort of minor damage.

I've just thought... how the hell can somebody 'accidentally' cause that bad a scratch on your car?!

I think you'll find it was the other way around. jsr645 left his details in the hope that the clumsy prat who dented and scratched his car would contact him. Not a chance.

Unfortunately some people see a car as just a car. I once had a go at a woman with a bicycle who was loading her shopping into the saddlebags and let her trolley roll across the carpark into my dad's bumper. "Its only a car" she replied. To which I snapped back, "well in that case how about I kick your front wheel and buckle it? After all, its only a bicycle"

No doubt the sort of woman who would go beserk if you accidentally scratched her precious white kitchen appliances.
