Default Government to announce 2k discount on new cars if scrapping old car in Budget.

Just noticed that the Government have announced that they are giving a 2K incentive for people to scrap their older cars and buy a new car, in order to help the car industry. Its reported that it will be officially announced in the budget on the 22nd April. Certainly sounds interesting for anyone considering a new car, though its uncertain how old the so called scrapped car needs to be. It's currently 9 years in other EU countries.
I can see it pushing up the value of old bangers, as it would be worth just buying a old car for a couple hundred quid just to get the 2k discount, unless they put something in place to prevent that happening.

I bet you will have to have owned the banger yourself for a number of years otherwise it would be a free for all in people buying them up just to get £2k off a new car.

how do u think the car makers sell there cars at a certain price they know your going to try and get a discount - trade in - extras so they make the list price more than the till price you drive away thinking you got a bargin the salesman is counting his monthly bonus and the car maker got their true price.

you will never really hold the 2k u will take your banger in get a 2k voucher that you take to the stealers and only main dealers and get 2k off list price u will get no other discounts off that car.

but u still have the problem of getting finance and if u do you will get over charged on that too.

To get the 2k off , will have to pay the full retail price of a new car and how many people do that nowadays. Why dont they just reduce the price of new cars in the first place
