Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, so apologies if i do something wrong.

I am looking to buy one of the above cars... but really concerned about the fuel consumption.

I have read the Polls - but tbh im an old fashioned kind of guy.... So i would like to make an average from the cost of a full a tank for both of the cars and the milege you get when the tank finishes.

I would ppreciate if anyone who has minute can state there car, the cost of a full tank, and what mileage they achieved with that full tank.

When I decided to go for a vectra SRi CDTi I would have liked a 3.0 instead of a 1.9 but after doing a few sums, my estimate was around 30% increase in fuel overall costs which I didn't feel was justified. I will be intersted to see if this is anywhere near accurate from any replies given.

If fuel is your consern then its the 1.9 hands down! My 3.0 rarely gives more than 40mpg on any run. The 1.9 will probably do that around town!

i have 1.9cdti (150) costs around 50 quid to fill , i say around as diesel keeps going up and down in price

i get around 46 mpg at an average

however on a good run i have seen a range of 799 miles on my computer

cant grumble at all, as i was used to 400 miles to tank out of my old car

Welcome to the forum btw. The 1.9 cdti will be better on fuel consumption but the 150 (1.9) bhp versions do have issues (not everyone but many) with swirl valves and egr valves. If the swirl valves give trouble then your looking at over a £grand+ to fix properly. Knowing this now, and as mine is not a company car etc I would have factored this into the equation when I was comparing costs between the 1.9 and 3.0.

Do you need a diesel?

Some of us 1.8VVT drivers are getting diesel-like fuel consumption, and we don't have the ticking timebomb EGR and inlet manifolds under the bonnet.

I get 44 MPG from my 1.9 cdti (150). That's paying zero attention to fuel comsumption. When I drives my wives car in exactly the same way it's around 30 MPG. She has a 1.8 VVT sports hatch.

Both are capable of a lot more if driven with a bit more economy in mind.

I'm getting 36.7mpg out of my 1.8VVT, again not bothering to drive easy. I've seen 39mpg.

The problem of the Swirl Valve and EGR, does this tend to occur more on the pre-facelift cars more than the newer cars as the Network Q warrenty recently ran out on mine, and this has got me a bit concerned as i have the 1.9 150.
