    Thumbs down Limp Mode

Hi everyone, I have a bit of a problem. I have a 53 plate vectra 2.0 dti elegance and its started playing up. In either 3rd 4th or 5th gear once I get to 3500 revs I get the dreaded engine/spanner light and the car goes into limp mode. 1st and 2nd gear this doesnt happen. I did get the rac out to the car but their laptop would not detect any fault. Ive been quoted £43 + VAT at vauxhall but it may not disclose the fault and at this present time i dont really want to waste that money on something i already know lol. So I'm open to suggestions plz as what I can try considering the faults ive mentioned many thx ... Slipps

your fighting a losing battle if the faults are not being stored in the ecu tbh, take it to a garage and have a proper tech2 session done and see if they can find the faults.

now i seem to have lost all turbo power and the spanner light still comes on at 3500 revs ( once i get there ) may have to get the matches out! on a serious note its very disheartening I think im looking at loads of £££ at the stealers unless anyone has any ideas on what may cause these symptoms :-(

The 2.0 has a well documented problem with splitting hoses and your symptoms are basically exactly what happens with a split hose. Have a look at the large boost hoses checking for any small splits all round (i.e underneath too) and any of the other hoses. The large boost hose is so common that Vx made a modified (stronger supposedly) hose which a dealer will sell - unfortunately it only comes with the complete two pieces of hose so it's not cheap, about £130 I think.

That's the first thing to check anyway.

I cant seem to find any splits ive had a good feel around unless im not checkin right. Even started engine whilst checking couldnt feel any splits or air escaping unless i have to take the pipes off to check them. My obd 11 scanner states that the egr has cycled its tests and ok there as I thought this might be the culprit. As I now have no turbo boost I just hope that the turbo hasnt packed up.
on the live egine data from my scanner this came up but i havent a clue if in parameters

    MAF (lb/min 1.734
this was at idle dunno if ok or not just a thought though

thx for your replies all fixed now it was a small pipe that was split (3mm) by the elbow insert I cant believe that such a small pipe can completly shut down the turbo. Ive temp fixed it by wrapping insulating tape round it until I get a new pipe.

    Good old gaffer tape.

One of the few things you need.

    Hammer
    Adjustable spanner
    Screw driver
    WD40
    Gaffer tape

Everything else is just taking up room.......
