    Post Questions about brake upgrade

I have read that some of the best brake upgrades for 1.9 CDTI, can be made by changing the 278mm fronts for either a set of 302mm from a 2.0T or the 314mm from a GSi/3.0 CDTi.

I have a few questions about this:
Is the “314” brake upgrade similar to the brakes used in VXR/OPC brakes ? Can I use my 16” winter wheels in occasion of any of these brake upgrades, or do I have to buy me a set of new wheels and winter tires ?

I take for granted that if I do a brakeupgrade, I have to change both discs and callipers, and of course pads ? Does anybody have a view of which parts that needs to be changed, and the no for those parts ?

Is it just "plug and play" ?

Buy the way, spring has finally arrived in Norway

    Best regards Baard

Do a search for 314 brakes as there is plenty to read. I am not sure they will fit your 16" winter wheels hang on for more advice, pleased to say spring is here also .....

Yep, as stated already, the 16's are too small to accommodate the 314's. Plenty of people have 17's on with 314's though.

You NEED 17" rims for the 314mm brakes. The 302mm should fit with 16".

I've a 302mm setup waiting to go on my motor sometime, they'll go on when the standard mountain bike brakes wear out.

    Thanks fellows !.

And if I have understood it correctly from reading on this forum, 302 and 314 brakes are both plug and play ?

One more question: Do I have to remove the original brake shield, or does it contain room for new bigger discs ?

Sorry to trouble you once again, but I have more "brake-questions".

I have been searching for places to get hold of "314 brakes". If I’m not wrong, I remember reading some place in this forum that the 314 brakes are similar to the front brakes used on Saab 9-3 SS Aero. (mod 02-)

When I search for brakes on Saab 9-3 Aero, it seems as if they use ATE brake callipers in front. As I recall, the brake callipers used on Vectra are all marked GM ? Or, are these
similar to ATE callipers on Saab 9-3 Aero ?
