    Default Ignition Switch replacement

I have had a problem starting the car today and Green flag have come out and said it is a faulty ignition switch. does anyone know how easy it is to replace and what sort of cost is a new one. he says it is a common fault so someone must know what to do. the car is a 2.0DTi

Remove steering column shrouds, insert key into ignition and turn to position 1, insert a thin rod into the hole in the lock housing, press the rod to release the detent spring, pull out the lock cylinder using the key. Replace lock with key in position 1, remove rod from housing.

There is a vauxhall one on ebay for about £15 with postage. Although it doesnt fit a car with tilt stearing. But gives you a guide for the price.

Is it the actual switch or the immobiliser pickup module that is defective?

vauxhall have now come back and just told me that the switch cannot be bought on its own and is fixed into a module that controls the stearing wheel controls and wiper/indicators and now want over £500 just for the part

I would try or at least ring another VX dealer. I replaced the ignition barrel on my wifes Vectra B. The barrel cost £45. I would presume they are both simalar.
