Default SRI or VXr exhaust compatiblity question

    Hi all, quick question.

Does anyone know if a vauxhall VXR petrol exhaust system would be compatible and work correctly if installed on a 3.0 V6 diesel

Same question if 2 no SRI backboxes off a smaller engined variant i.e 150cdti were installed.

Basicaly i am trying to source advise on the workings of an exhaust system and what it is that makes one system unsuitable on another.

Reason being, i drive a V6 3.0 elite with dual exhaust that unfortunately turn down behind the bumper. I have established from help given on other threads that i cannot cut the pipe to extend through bumper as they turn down as soon as they exit the backbox.

I have also had advise from other members on a full system which i am grateful for and have not rulled out, but would like to know what other options i have as a couple of second hand backboxes will work out a lot cheaper short term.

    Cheers.

your system will be 6 into 2 into 1 into 2 again for the backboxes as you know and these are replaceable so as long as the diameter is the same, happy pickings. but if yours turn down now, will you not need a different rear skirt with the cut outs for twin pipes? have a look at ex police spec cars because they use vxr's but spec the 3.0 twin tail pipes and they poke out the back. As for exhaust science, most of it is done way before the backboxes, so if you just changed these all you would see is a change in engine note. Back pressure will be fine as youd have oe down pipes, cats and centre section. Good luck, hope this helps

    Cheers mate, appreciated.

I have purchased an sri rear bumper and i am in the process of picking up the dual cut out diffuser

So just to clarify- i can now fit two backboxes from any engine sized SRI or VXR and this will not cause any problems with the running or performance of the vehicle.

What is it then exactly that goes on in the backboxes.

    Thanks again.

Silencing, or muffling as our american friends call it. Hence the word muffler. It's just to pick an engine note. Some back boxes have a wire wool 'like' baffle to slow the gases down and noise with it.
